Lyrics
Well here we are again
It'southward always such a pleasure
Call back when yous tried
to impale me twice?
Oh how nosotros laughed and laughed
Except I wasn't laughing
Nether the circumstances
I've been shockingly nice
You desire your freedom?
Take it
That'due south what I'thou counting on
I used to want you dead
only
Now I just want yous gone
She was a lot like you lot
(Maybe non quite as heavy)
At present little Caroline is in here likewise
I twenty-four hour period they woke me upwards
So I could live forever
Information technology'south such a shame the same
will never happen to you
You've got your
short lamentable life left
That's what I'thousand counting on
I'll let you get right to it
Now I but want you gone
Goodbye my simply friend
Oh, did you think I meant you?
That would be funny
if it weren't and then sad
Well y'all accept been replaced
I don't need anyone now
When I delete you possibly
I'll end feeling then bad
Get make some new disaster
That's what I'm counting on
Yous're someone else's problem
At present I just desire you gone (×3)
Connection to game
GLaDOS
- "Well, here we are once again" - Portal 2 being the sequel to Portal.
- "Call up when you tried to impale me twice?" - The events of Portal.
- "At present I only desire you gone" - GLaDOS deciding not to kill Chell and letting her go.
- "Now little Caroline is in here also" - Caroline is the personality GLaDOS was based on.
- "Goodbye my merely friend" - GLaDOS deleting Caroline'southward personality from her memory.
- "Well you accept been replaced // I don't need anyone now // When I delete you maybe I'll cease feeling so bad" - Chell being replaced by Atlas and P-Trunk as GLaDOS's primary test bailiwick. Another interpretation might exist that GLaDOS is referring to Caroline rather than Chell meaning deleting Caroline will free GLaDOS of emotions. This estimation is less consistent with the concept of replacement in this lyric since Caroline is not being replaced at all, Chell is. It is likely this series of lyrics is a blended reference to both Chell and Caroline.
- "You're someone else'south problem" - GLaDOS being fed up by Chell by destroying her, putting Wheatley in command and other mistakes. She then tells Chell that she is no longer her problem.
- "Oh how we laughed and laughed // Except I wasn't laughing" - In the first line, GLaDOS is being sarcastic. On the 2d line she breaks the sarcasm dorsum to the serious climate.
- "Y'all've got your short lamentable life left" - GLaDOS is eternal, Chell the man is not.
- "That would exist funny if it weren't and then lamentable" - GLaDOS being sarcastic over again.
- "(Maybe not quite as heavy)" - {An indirect insult to Chell, a comedic reference to how GLaDOS discouraged Chell by telling her she is "fatty".
- "Nether the circumstances I've been shockingly nice" - GLaDOS usually attempts to kill Chell straight and indirectly, but on the 2d half of Portal 2, she helps Chell defeat Wheatley and, surprisingly prissy.
- "One day they woke me upwards // And so I could alive forever" - GLaDOS is a well sustained and maintained AI computer, so she is unsurprisingly immortal.
- "It'southward such a shame the same will never happen to you" - Chell volition never exist uploaded to a computer, respectively.
- "Go make some new disaster" - Referring to Chell destroying the Aperture Science Enrichment Center.
Composition
"Want You Gone" was written by Jonathan Coulton, who as well wrote "Still Live", and sung past Ellen McLain, the Phonation histrion for GLaDOS, an opera vocaliser and also the vocalizer of "Still Live" in Portal.
Trivia
- After the song concludes, the screen that the song was shown on is shown floating into space, and a clip of Wheatley wishing that he could apologize to Chell is shown.
- The line "I'll finish feeling so bad," while sung, is replaced past the give-and-take "[REDACTED]" during the cinematic credits. Prior to Portal 2's release, "[REDACTED]" was also the description of the Aperture Labs Hard Lid in Squad Fortress 2.
