Chicago Fire Bria Shows Up in Dawsons Life Again Episode 20

Chicago Fire season 6, episode 20 takeaways: The Strongest Among Us

Did Chicago Fire surprise you with this week's Dawsey reveal? Was Boden right about Grissom? Here are our Chicago Fire season 6, episode 20 takeaways.

Last night's Chicago Fire was all about things that looked worse than they were, so what can we deduce now that we know the truth?

Thursday's episode was called "The Strongest Among Us" and while Wallace Boden (Eamonn Walker) and Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) thought they were being bribed, it turned out to be just an ill-minded gift from the father of a woman they'd saved. Meanwhile, Bria (guest star Quinn Cooke) came back looking for some prom help and got it in spades.

If you missed any of this Chicago Fire episode or just want a refresher on the events that we're discussing, you can catch up with our "The Strongest Among Us" recap.

Here are our Chicago Fire season 6, episode 20 takeaways:

1) Is a Dawsey baby on the way?

The episode ended on a high note, with Gabriela Dawson (Monica Raymund) deciding that she wants to try for a baby again. Which prompts the natural question: could Chicago Fire season 6 end with the announcement of a Dawsey baby?

That would definitely be the kind of big news that you would be looking for in a season finale, and it's certainly welcomed given how the show has played with Dawson's desire for motherhood.

Having said that, we also don't want to get our hopes up too much. Chicago Fire has already broken our hearts twice in this regard, first with Dawson's prior miscarriage and then again with Louie.

There's no guarantee that the season will end with her being pregnant, and even if she is, there's no guarantee that it will end happily. For Dawsey's sake and ours, though, we hope it does!

2) What the heck is Grissom up to?

Boden was quite suspicious of Chief Grissom (guest star Gary Cole) in this episode. Not only did he yank back Boden's offer of promotion, but he conveniently showed up when Boden and Severide were called to the commissioner's office to discuss their bribe. So what is Grissom really plotting? We have three more episodes to find out.

And did anyone else feel like this bribe plot was a bit anti-climactic? No matter where this guy is from, he didn't realize that sending anonymous envelopes full of money could possibly come off the wrong way? If he was really intent on giving a gift, why not just do it when he first showed up at the firehouse? Or say he wanted to do something and ask how to go about it? Even if he's in the mafia, it seems like there were much easier and less thorny ways to do what he wanted to do.

Next time, just send a cake or something.

3) Was Stella really just messing with Otis?

Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) challenged the returning Otis (Yuri Sardarov) for driving rights on Truck 81, but then at the end of the episode claimed she was just trying to get the rest of the crew to start messing with Otis like they had before. Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer) bought her story, but we're not sure we do.

Much like point 2 above, it seems like there had to be easier ways to accomplish the desired effect, in this case getting Otis back into his regular dynamic at the firehouse. The other issue we have is just from a writing standpoint; it's not that we doubt Stella's sincerity, but it feels like the script is trying to come up with an explanation for her behavior after the fact. If we'd seen even one hint or even a tease of her true motivation elsewhere, we'd believe her more. It wouldn't even really ruin the twist, if it's subtle enough. But that context would go a long way.

At least we're glad that Otis is back where he belongs!
